Our Process
Production
At Valookkaran Modern Rice Mill, our competitive edge lies in our world-class manufacturing infrastructure that sets new benchmarks in Kerala’s rice industry. We blend cutting-edge machinery with traditional rice-handling practices to preserve the authenticity and richness of every grain. Our production line is driven by continuous innovation, enabling enhanced processing, superior hygiene, and precision in packaging and delivery—qualities that have helped us earn a reputation among the top rice brands in Kerala.

Technical Department
Once the rice is harvested, it enters our technologically advanced post-processing facility. At Valookkaran Modern Rice Mill, modernization is not an option—it’s a necessity. We have invested heavily in high-performance equipment, skilled technicians, and intelligent systems to manage large-scale production efficiently.
Our technical team, trained in the latest industry standards, ensures seamless equipment performance and process optimization. Preventive maintenance, constant monitoring, and rapid response to technical issues are embedded in our operational culture, ensuring both product excellence and worker safety.

Laboratories
Our dedicated research and development laboratory focuses on continually improving rice cultivation, harvesting, and processing. We meticulously analyze rice characteristics, including grain length, stickiness, texture, flavor, and aroma, to ensure superior quality. Asian rice varieties primarily fall into two categories: Indica (long-grain) and Japonica (short-grain). While grain length and stickiness are largely determined by genetics and cultivation, post-processing significantly impacts aroma and flavor. Minimizing broken rice during milling is crucial for optimal taste. Rigorous laboratory testing on random samples safeguards product consistency and identifies any quality deviations.
Milling Process
At Valookkaran Modern Rice Mill, our milling operation is designed to produce rice with optimal grain integrity and minimal wastage. The process begins with feeding cleaned paddy into precision-engineered machinery, which carefully separates the hull, bran, and germ while preserving whole grains.
We employ advanced milling systems that maximize the yield of head rice and minimize broken kernels. Every step—from dehusking to polishing—is meticulously controlled. The by-products, such as husk and bran, are efficiently repurposed, contributing to a zero-waste production environment.

Effluent Treatment plant
Parboiled rice forms a significant portion of our production. As a responsible rice processor, V.M.R Kuthira Rice has taken robust steps to combat the environmental challenges associated with this method. Our in-house Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) effectively treats water used during the soaking phase, which is often rich in organic content and silica.
The ETP operates through a two-stage treatment process—first anaerobic biological treatment, followed by a chemical purification phase. This eco-friendly system, developed in collaboration with certified environmental engineers, ensures all treated water meets pollution control standards before discharge.

Water Treatment Plant
Water sustainability is a core value at V.M.R, Our Water Treatment Plant is engineered to recycle and purify used water throughout the production cycle. Leveraging advanced filtration and sterilization technologies, we ensure that every drop is reused safely and efficiently.
This closed-loop system drastically reduces water wastage and enables us to operate in full compliance with environmental regulations, reinforcing our commitment to a greener future

Biogas Plant
To make our operations more sustainable, V.M.R Kuthira Rice has installed a Biogas Plant that converts organic waste—such as husks and bran—into clean energy. This renewable energy is used to partially power our facilities, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
The initiative not only cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions but also exemplifies our commitment to sustainable rice processing practices and circular energy use.

Rain Water Harvesting
Kerala’s monsoon rains are a valuable resource, and V.M.R Kuthira Rice makes full use of them through our efficient Rainwater Harvesting system. By collecting and storing rainwater from rooftops and catchment areas, we minimize our use of external water supplies.
This initiative also plays a crucial role in groundwater recharge and provides an additional layer of resilience during dry periods. It reflects our broader mission to integrate eco-conscious practices into every facet of our operations.
